Kamchatka is a dream that needs to be realized!
On our journey we will experience everything of interest in the region. We will mount active volcanoes, watch their craters and beautiful lakes, splash about in hot springs, and spend a few days in a reserve where salmon spawn where and hundreds of brown bears live. We watch how they fish, and even try our hands at fishing as well. We make a detour to the Pacific Ocean and we’ll see bird colonies, sea lions and, with a bit of luck, orcas and other whales.
In 10 days in Kamchatka we will experience all of its treasures. The main program is already very eventful, but for those who want more, we have prepared additional options that will make your trip even more vibrant and memorable. If you love the sea and other marine life, join our two-day sea expedition to Russkaya Bay. If you want to see more volcanoes and feel like you’re on another planet, add a jeep tour to Ostry Tolbachik volcano to the main program.
We are leaving Moscow on July 15, 2020.
Immediately upon arrival we meet the volcanoes “Petropavlovsk” – “Kamchatka” – “Avashinsky”, “Koryaksky” and “Kozelsky”. When the weather is clear, they are so incredibly nice to look at, you will reach for the camera as soon as getting out of the plane. After baggage claim, we make our way to the city, stopping at the monument “This is Russa” – this impressive monument is the most famous of the city. Next we check in a comfortable hotel overlooking the magnificent Avacha Bay, where we relax a little and prepare for the experiences waiting for us. If you like, take a tour through the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, visit the “Vulkanarium” or the Hot Springs.
Today we’ll get on huge jeeps and see the volcanoes of the eastern part of Kamchatka. The first stop is at the volcano Vilyu. This extinct volcano will delight you with its beauty and size. Then we make our way to the foot of the volcano Gorely, and walk directly over frozen lava. After a climb of 900 meters, we’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the surroundings and craters of the volcano – there are 11 craters! Next we make a detour to the “Blue Lake”. In the evening we set up our camp and spend the night in tents.
Today we have a simple ascent to the Mutnovskij Volcano on our agenda. As we climb to the top, we feel its vitality and power. Part of the crater wall has been destroyed, so we can look directly into the volcanic vent and take look at the “cloud factory”, which means there are active fumarols and mud drains. After lunch we take a walk to an ice cave. Its incredible beauty will be remembered for a long time to come. In the evening we return to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
After a good night’s sleep, we have breakfast and go for a walk along Khalaktyrsky Beach. There we will feel the power of the Pacific Ocean, admire its vast expanses, breathe the delicious sea air and walk on pure black sand. Then we drive far into the peninsula and reach the village Milkovo, where we spend the night in the hotel.
Today we fly by helicopter to a unique location. Only 30 tourists are allowed to visit it per day. We live next to a lake in a valley surrounded by high mountains and fast rivers. The next days we will spend without internet connection, completely in balance with nature. We also have the opportunity to meet the owner of the Kamchatka forests. Since we are in a safe place, we can observe brown bears hunting fish. In the evening we bathe in the healing waters of the hot springs.
Today we will spend with fish and contemplation. In the morning we observe bears eating salmon and try to catch some ourselves when the hunters go to sleep. The lake is one of the largest spawning grounds of Kamchatka. We will catch and eat the tastiest and freshest fish. The rest of the time we’ll walk around in the area, guided by a ranger or swim in the hot springs.
On this day we will once again see the bears and go on a helicopter ride in the direction of the foothills of the volcano Alnay, and see the frozen lava flows of the volcano Cesconja. Then we return to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the journey by car takes 6-7 hours. On the way we will have lunch in the village Milkovo, as well as visit the natural hot springs “Malkinskie”, where we can take a swim.
This is a day at leisure. If everything works out, you can either rest and walk around Petropavlovsk, take the helicopter to the Valley of the Geysers or go to Tolmacheva Lake.
As part of the main program, we will take you to the fish market on this day to buy the freshest seafood delicacies at the best prices – octopus, Kamchatka shrimp and red caviar. Then it’s off to the airport.
For those who want to go on a real sea expedition, we recommend a two-day cruise with us to Russkaya Bay, one of the most famous and beautiful bays on the east coast of Kamchatka. This deep fjord is 8 km long. Numerous rocks and rock towers that emerge from the water, serve as a resting stop for sea lions. We will be able to watch them directly from the kayaks. And, of course, we’ll likely find killer whales, gray whales and humpback whales during this trip.
– Meet the captain, and get onto the catamaran.
– Drive to the bay “Russkaya” past the rocks “Three Brothers”, the island Starichkov, the Nameless Bay, the rivers Small and Big Sarannaja, and the bay Sabotazhnaja. Fishing on the way to the bay Vilyuchinskaya. We observe sea animals, white-shouldered eagles and seabird colonies. We’ll have lunch during the trip.
– We anchor in the bay “Russkaya”. Walk, dinner and overnight stay on the ship.
– Fishing in the bay “Russkaya”. Kayaking. There’s a good chance we’ll see bears coming ashore, and if we’re lucky, we can even watch them catch some salmon.
– Going to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, observation of killer whales. Stop for lunch and fishing in the Quiet bay on the way.
– End of the program, arrival at the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
Those who love mountains, rocks and alien landscapes can extend their journey with us to Tolbachik. The volcanic eruptions of 1975 and 2012 transformed this place into a black and red wasteland, fascinating with its beauty and splendor.
A trip to Tolbachik is not for everyone. Getting there is not easy, but we will make it as comfortable as possible. In Kozyrevsk, where we fly from Bear Lake, we are picked up by jeeps and after 4 hours we reach the Dead Forest. In 1975, a cloud of hot gas covered the area in seconds, destroying all life. Here we stay in luxury tents, have dinner and prepare for tomorrow’s expedition to another planet.
After breakfast we set out for the foot of the beautiful volcanic massif forming the volcanoes Ostrij and Ploskij Tolbachik. On this day we will see a lot of results from the eruptions of 2013: fresh and even hot lava flows, caves, stone statues and piles of frozen lava. We roast chocolate bananas over hot cracks, and an experienced guide will tell us all about the history of these volcanoes and show us around the most impressive places.
Today a trip up to small volcanoes awaits us – Cone Tolbachinskij. The journey by car takes 8-10 hours.
